The extension of the domain of hip-hop is at the heart of Mourad Merzouki’s work. Since 1996, when Käfig dance company was created, the choreographer has explored several paths to develop his own language and to open it towards other horizons: he worked with suspended violins in "Récital", narration in "Terrain vague", experimented with Brazilian dancers in "Agwa". Having been recently nominated as Director of the National Centre of Choreography of Créteil and Val-de-Marne, the artiste rebuilds his ties with his childhood Lyonnaise, when he had developed his taste for circus and martial arts. His new creation with the Quatuor Debussy (who is also of Lyonnaise origin) is filled with these contrasts. This work merges humour, sports and challenges. The creator has remained loyal to his origins, keeping intact the spirit and impact of his urban roots. But the dance is also a "window that is open to the world", that which gives a whole other dimension to the artistic project of this choreographer. This show will be filmed on the 1st of October 2010. |
