Mares et Lavognes - Trailer

Pools started off as spaces that held back natural waters and were later dug by man. They have progressively dotted the landscapes of our countryside.

These pools had different functions, depending on the region they were in. Their uses went from domestic (water for kitchens, toilets, washing purposes), to artisan utility (iron work, wood work…) or even agricultural purposes (irrigation, breeding, retting of linen and hemp).

Pools have for a long time been an indispensable element of rural areas and have played a major role in local economy.

Today, they’re slowly disappearing. But some people are trying to preserve them.
