For more than 5 centuries before our time, composers of what we today call "classical music" were the animators of the music sector in their era; their "heroes" one might call them. With every new generation sprung a new talent, music was lived in the present, creation was the motor to everything...
Today, composers of contemporary music are the ugly ducklings of Music. they are no longer leaders and their minuscule audience marginalises them in the face of the larger music market. Survivors of a disappearing species, maintained alive thanks to a weak institutional support, their works are rarely played, too rapidly listened to, too rapidly forgotten : no musical fact seems to make a lasting mark in history.
Are they going to be marginalised more and more, until they disappear? Or will they be able to infuse new ideas, by reuniting with history, a prestigious symphonic heritage and tecnologies and newer sensibilities?
Encounters with Florentine Mulsant, Thierry Pécou and Philippe Hersant.
