- Shaman - Trailer
Shaman has been rewarded by the CNC institution and Les Cahiers du cinéma for a special quality prize.
Luc Perez is currently working on his latest animated short feature film called "Shaman". A Franco-Danish coproduction between 24 Images and Dansk Tegnefilms based in Copenhague, this project has been pre-bought by Arte France.
The film is conceptualised as a flashback between the Copenhague of today and Greenland from the early twenties. The story is about the combat between Kunuk, a young hunter and a terrible wizard who had destroyed his village with the help of a Tupilak, horrific monster and evil-doing animal. Thanks to his initiation into Shamanism and his knowledge of this mysterious world, Kunuk succeeds in destroying his enemies. Flash forward to Kunuk, today an aging old man lost in the modern civilisation of consumption.
Luc Perez is attempting a new technique in this film. He will paint huge paintings on paper and then scan the results at different stages of their accomplishment. Then, the animation will take place partly by mixing the pictures with the help of computer technology. The animated picture will be constructed and will evolve in the course of the action.
To mix painting and computer technology, to use simple and fluid forms and to use a reduced palette of colours, Luc Perez has taken up several challenges, in order to make this visually breathtaking and beautiful film.
